I’M

PAIGE,

AND

THIS

IS MY

STORY

I’m Paige Thornton - a residential and commercial designer of 30 years, and former owner of The French Basket, an interior shop filled with unique antique and vintage finds - and this is my story.

Aside from being a designer, I am a mother and wife, married to my high school sweetheart Blair. My two amazing children are extraordinarily creative; I encouraged them from an early age to listen to the creative rhythm in their own hearts and act on it. I am so blessed to be able to build creatively with them all these years later!

I attribute my creative family upbringing and connection with nature as landmark reasons for my love of design. For me, my love of home started at a young age, through my mother and my grandparents.

After learning and loving many different mediums, I landed on interior design as a young adult. In those days I had just experienced beautiful, unique homes outside of my family home; it opened up a whole new world to me, and gave me a strong desire to create beauty specifically in the home. I thought, “What if I could weave my client’s personal journey and inspiration into the heart of a design? What if I could make the ‘soul’ and senses cornerstones in the  design process?” That initial creative inspiration from my family became the foundation of inspiration for all of my design-work, and gave me a reference for what a home could be: a warm, unique, storied respite from the world.

ABOUT LIFE, HOME, AND DESIGN

Life happens to all of us, and sometimes requires us to shift and pivot. In 2017, I made the difficult decision to close my beloved brick-and-mortar shop, The French Basket. It was a very hard season to walk through, but I felt God nudging me to step out into His plan, even though I didn’t know what that looked like. After some contemplation and thought, I knew I was ready to labor toward new dreams. Something inside me yearned for more space, growth, and beauty, but at the time I didn’t know how to fulfill that longing.

I turned to God for answers, and started on a journey to rebuild my life with faith and a new-found peace. This journey has been difficult to say the least, but full to the brim with beauty and triumph. The hardships along the way forged within me a new humility - an understanding of what is truly meaningful in this life. Everything my family and I have faced has drawn us closer to each other, and led me deeper into a wonderfully beautiful life.

These days you’ll find me designing beautiful spaces from my home studio that overlooks our small farm, scouring the land for unique vintage goods, and writing here to all of you. All my years in design have taught me so much about the art of designing, especially designing with a deeper understanding of oneself and the individual path we all want to take.

I’m so thrilled to journey through these new seasons together, through life, home & design.

“HOW WE SPEND OUR DAYS IS, OF COURSE, HOW WE SPEND OUR LIVES.”
